4 Things I Learned From 'The Incredible Jessica James'

Have you seen 'The Incredible Jessica James' on Netflix yet? Don't worry, you're not the only one who's late on Netflix movies/series. Apparently the short film came out in 2017, but I just saw it for the first time. I always look for a good comedy when I am in the need for a spirit boost. I watched the trailer and it seemed pretty funny. The movie is categorized as a romantic comedy.

Spoiler ALERT: It wasn't very romantic, lol.

There were, however, a few great relatable lessons in the movie.

1. Healing Takes Time

As someone who also experienced a really rough break up months ago, I feel for Jessica. Although I didn't choose the rebound route to get over my ex lover, I can agree with doing something to get your mind off things. Just like Jessica, I had dreams about my ex for the first 2-3 months of our breakup. You have to reprogram your subconscious mind. If they are the last thing that was on your mind before bed, guess what? They'll be visiting you in your dreams. Take on new hobbies, hang out with friends, create new healthy distractions, and most importantly give it time.

2. Chase Your Passion, NOT Just Money

When Sarah Jones assured Jessica that if she loves play writing and she's doing it, she's already made it, that really motivated me. I think we all can agree that money is important. We need it to survive in today's world. However, it shouldn't be the be all-end all. Find something you genuinely love doing, do it well, and never give up. The money will come. I'm sure Jessica will be compensated greatly for her play in London. If she quit when she received all of those rejections, she wouldn't have been graced with the opportunity in London.

3. There is Family You Choose and Family You're Born Into

Your family may not understand you and that is perfectly okay. I know it can be tough feeling like an outsider within your own bloodline. I've always felt that way with most of my extended family. The good thing is, your friends can become family. Your tribe is out there! There are other people that understand you and will be there because they want to be, not just because blood says they have to.

4. Women Are Badass Unicorns

"I really like you."

"Of course, you do.

Everybody does. I'm freaking dope."

- Jessica James

Jessica is one fierce, passionate, unapologetic woman. She is a reminder that we don't have to conform to any of the systematical stereotypes placed upon women regarding the way we should think/act. We're magical beings of our own.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, it's worth watching. Jessica James is hilarious with her brutally honest persona.
